I don't think that more public services should be privatized.
I have two reasons to support my opinion.
Firstly, a revised Water Supply Law was passed in 2018, allowing for the privatization of water supply business.
With declining revenues due to a declining population and the challenge of repairing aging water pipes, 33% of water supply business are in the red.
These deficits are being incurred by small municipalities.
That's why, even if the water supply business is privatized, it is highly likely that no companies will enter the market.
If service providers are absent in depopulated areas, people will not be able to access such essential services, which should be avoided.
Secondly, in the pursuit of profit, the quality of service may deteriorate.
For example, NHK's live broadcast of the Japanese parliament, children's programs, and educational programs are difficult to monetize.
Also, accurate and reliable information about this year's Noto earthquake was provided by NHK.
Privatization should not result in a reduction of the quality, or discontinuation of these services.
In conclusion, I don't think that more public services should be privatized.
