I think that government censorship can be justified on certain conditions.
I have two reasons to support my opinion.
Firstly, freedom of speech is one of the fundamental ideas of democracy.
That's why the Internet and social media are so threatening to authoritarian countries that they are regulated.
However, even in democracies, censorship can be justified if it infringes on other individual rights other than freedom of speech.
For example, hate speech is not tolerated, and it is reasonable to censor messages on social medias.
Secondly, censorship can be justified if it is for the purpose of preventing crime.
For example, police wiretapping is permitted after strict procedures have been followed to prevent it from infringing on the secrecy of communications.
Also, in response to a series of assaults on trains, it has been decided to make it mandatory to install security cameras in newly introduced trains.
Installation has already been completed on the Yamanote Line and Shinkansen.
In conclusion, I am of the opinion that government censorship can be justified on certain conditions.
